SIRE Econometrics Workshop

Motivation For the Workshop

There are many good econometricians in Scotland, but we are dispersed across all the universities. Most Scottish universities have at most one or two theoretical econometricians and a few more applied econometricians. This makes it difficult to invite econometrics speakers within the confines of a regular departmental seminar series. However, if we all get together, then we can get a large enough audience to warrant the invitation of top flight econometricians in the UK and elsewhere to come give a seminar in Scotland. In addition, it should help build more ties between us, the econometricians at the SIRE universities.

Organization

The plan is that, two or three times a year, all of the econometricians in Scotland will be invited to an afternoon workshop at a hosting university. The detailed arrangements will be left to the local organizer, but the rough plan is to have at least two speakers give seminars in an afternoon, followed by drinks and dinner.

The First SIRE Econometrics Workshop will be held from 2:55-5:30 on 3 December, 2008 at the University of St. Andrews. Rod McCrorie is the local organizer and the speakers will be Robert Taylor (Nottingham University) and Giuseppe Cavaliere (University of Bologna). Details are available here.

The Second SIRE Econometrics Workshop will be held on 18 March, 2009 at the University of Strathclyde. Gary Koop is the local organizer and the speakers will be Mark Steel (University of Warwick), Gianni Amisano (European Central Bank) and Gael Martin (Monash University).
