Strathclyde Loch

It was a case of third time lucky in finding the RING BILLED GULL (1) (2) (3) (4), though it did take a while to appear. It was coming to bread and showing really well in the fading light. Later in the gull roost was an Adult ICELAND GULL and a white HERRING GULL. Also a good number of SAND MARTINS feeding in the centre of the loch.

Mersehead etc.

A trip to the Mersehead area with Chris produced some nice uncommon birds. At Southerness was a solitary PURPLE SANDPIPER and a GREAT NORTHERN DIVER. From Carsethorn were 30+ GREAT CRESTED GREBES, and then at Mersehead itself was a BRAMBLING in a large CHAFFINCH flock and a nice BARN OWL in the setting sun.
