There are no errors currently known to the authors in Chapter 14 of the 4th edition. However, there were some errors in Chapter 14 of the 3rd edition, detailed below.
Chapter 14, page 475, Equation 14.4: The ordering of terms in the denominator
term on the right hand side of the equation should be reversed. That is, the
correct equation should be as shown in the link here.
(Professor Ingrid Ott of the University of Lueneburg kindly pointed out this
error to me).
There are several mistakes in Appendix 14.1, beginning on page 496. The
first of these concerns the notation used in the descriptions of the "Objective
function" in Tables 14.2 and 14.3. As point 1. towards the bottom of
page 497 makes clear, J(u) is the function to be maximised. The correct
way to write out the Objective function (in both Table 14.2 and 14.3) is,
therefore, with the expression "max" to be placed to the left of
the expression "J(u)". That is, to bring the term "max"
from the right-hand side of the expressions to the start of the left hand
side, so it reads as
max J(u) = ...etc.
The next mistake in Appendix 14.1 is actually a series of mistakes, mainly
associated with notation used in Tables 14.2 and 14.3. Some of these are repeated
type-setting errors in which the convention of using a bold font to denote
a vector of variables has not been followed consistently. These apply particularly
- but not only - to the symbol lambda. There are also a few other more serious
mistakes in the Tables and the surrounding discussion. To list these individually
would be rather cumbersome. I have posted here
what I hope is an "error-free" version of Appendix 14.1, with colour
coding to show where changes have been made. I am grateful to Professor Olav
Bjerkholt of the University of Oslo for first alerting me to these mistakes
in Appendix 14.1).
