CHILDREN'S LITERATURE: Assessment

Penalties for late submission of coursework

If you do not hand your work in on time, the following penalties will be applied: 3 marks per day for the first five working days (down to a minimum mark of 40%, providing the work merits a pass mark); thereafter, the maximum mark the work can get will be 40% (although if it does not merit a pass it will be given a mark below 40). The English Department does not normally grant extensions to deadlines. However, it is possible in some serious circumstances to apply to have a lateness penalty reduced or removed. If you think you have a case for reduction or removal of a penalty for lateness you should fill out an application form (available from the office or downloadable from the link below) and submit a paper copy to Mrs Wales or deposit it in the essay box. Applications must be submitted with supporting evidence in the form of a medical certificate or letter outlining extenuating personal circumstances. Should you encounter serious personal or medical circumstances which affect your work we strongly recommend that you contact immediately your doctor, or the Student Health Service, or the Student Advisory Service. Further details of procedures governing late work can be found in the Department's Guidelines on Assessed Work (accessed from the front page of the Children's Literature website).
